Land Area and Political Subdivision
Davao del Sur has a total land area of 3,940 sq.km. representing 12% of the Region total. It is composed of 15 municipalities and 337 barangays clustered into two districts. The first District consist of the municipalities of Bansalan, Digos, Hagonoy, Padala, Sta.Cruz, Malalag, Sulop, Sta. Maria, Malita, Don Marcelino and Jose Abad Santos.
Davao del Sur is located at the southern part of the Island of Mindanao, south of the Philippine archipelago. The province is bounded by Davao City on the North; the province of Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and South Cotabato on the West; Celebes Sea on the South and the Davao Gulf on the East.
Geography and Climate
Lying outside the typhoon belt, it is blessed with a favorable climate characterized by wet and dry seasons. The coldest time of the year is usually during the months of December and January. The hottest during the months of April and May. These conditions enable the area to produce commercial crops such as mango (in fact, it is the biggest mango producer in the DIDP), durian, banana coffee, cotton, sugarcane. Vegetables such as carrots, cabbage and white potato are also grown from the soil of Mt. Apo, which largely occupies the northeastern section of the province.
